Cublington won the toss (yes, that's six in a row) and elected to field in this eagerly anticipated local derby. Last year Long Marston narrowly defeated Cublington by 5 runs to take the Aylesbury & District U11 League title and this memory had clearly not faded for some of the boys. A very focused team performance in the field restricted Long Marston to 200 for 8. Runs were at a premium due to the high quality of the ground fielding and parsimonious bowling. Best bowling John Rickard 2 overs, 1 maiden, 3 for 2 including a double wicket maiden.

Determined not to repeat their mistake of lacking concentration with the bat in the face of a modest total, a truly focused team applied themselves to the task of building a winning score. To their credit the boys never took their foot off the accelerator and amassed a huge 341 for 1 in reply. This was comfortably our best performance with the bat and we are growing in confidence as a batting side with every game. Best batting Sam Carter 25 not out, including a perfect cover drive for four and a pull for six; along with his 2 for 7 earlier in the match, a fine all round contribution from the team captain. Also making double figures with some well struck boundaries were Alex Inglis 13, Luke Chiddention 12 and Jack Gill 10.

Thanks to James Inglis for scoring and doing the flags, Jean Lawson and Liz Inglis for preparing the food, Will for coaching, Graham Aldridge for stepping in as umpire and all parents for bringing the boys not to mention the team themselves for being so good; I enjoyed it hugely!

Just as a matter of passing interest, we have now won three out of three in this league with three to play against Northchurch, Ivinghoe & Pitsone and the traditionally strong Winslow last up. You can follow our progress in the Aylesbury & District League U11 North on the following website;
