Winning the toss for the fourth consecutive time, Cublington elected to field first on a chilly evening at Great Kingshill. We got off to a good start taking three wickets and restricting Kingshill to 226 after ten overs. The short boundries meant that keeping the runs down was always going to be a challenge and the game rather slipped away from us in the second half of the innings. The last pair really cut loose with some fine shots and added 17 and 15 apiece, Kingshill finishing on 300/3. Best bowling, Luke Chiddention, 2 overs, 1 wicket for 11 runs who also added a well taken catch at square leg for good measure.
At the team talk we knew we had to 'have a go' with the bat in order to compete. From a platform of 250/3 in the 15th over, we lost wickets as we pushed hard to find the big shots that might win us the match. Kingshill produced a disciplined bowling performance, conceding very few extras. There was though some fine hitting and much will have been learnt that will help us in the games to come. Best batting John Rickard, 15 not out and Sam Carter 13, not out including a perfectly executed cover drive for four. A textbook square cut to the boundry by Kit Gordon-Stuart was also a delight and I feel sure that we will learn to overcome natural fear and unleash these shots to realise our potential with the bat. Cublington innings closed on 240 for 7.
