Cublington got off to a great start having won the toss (again) and electing to field, claiming three wickets in the first three overs. There followed our best bowling performance of the season as we took wickets at regular intervals and conceded only 16 extras, comfortably our lowest total so far. Catching was again of a high standard with Ollie Sayer taking two. The 'champagne moment' was a perfectly pitched leg break from Kit Gordon-Stuart that turned and beat the bat to hit middle stump. Best bowling, an excellent performance from the much improved Jack Ash; 2 overs, 3-11. Ballinger finished on 233 for 7, John Martin top scoring with 10.
Unfortunately, Cublington were unable to match their application with the ball and will be disappointed to have closed on 209 for 12 in reply. Despite knowing that the ball was keeping low at one end, wickets fell steadily from the start and we failed to learn the lessons from the Ballinger innings. Two wickets apiece from Plumb, Bentley and Howe and a return of 2 overs, 4-11 for Fennell, bowling at the death, did the damage. Best batting, Sam Carter, 15 including a pull for six and some lusty blows at the end from Alex Inglis.
