Cublington continued their unbeaten run in the Aylesbury & District League this Sunday with a close fought victory by 8 runs against Northchurch. After winning the toss Northchurch chose to bat and applied themselves to building a lead. It was not until the end of the fourth over that Cublington were able to claim a wicket after excellent pressure from the fielding side told on the batsmen and Sam Carter effected a direct hit run out. Largely thanks to tight fielding throughout the innings and an accurate bowling performance the home side were restricted to a total of 231 for the loss of just five wickets. Alex Inglis took the best bowling honours with 2 overs, 1-4 and Jack Rushmere stopped several certain fours in the field although credit must go to all of the Cublington bowlers for a great all round effort.
Northchurch proved what a competitive side they are by producing probably the best bowling performance we have seen all season, conceding only two wides in the entire innings. Cublington batted agressively in response and with 18 overs gone were comfortably in control at 255 for 6. Some fine bowling at the death saw Cublington so nearly snatch defeat from the jaws of victory though as four wickets were lost during the final two overs. The Northchurch wicketkeeper was particularly excellent in taking two stumpings and standing up to all the bowlers. Finishing on 239, good contributions were made all down the order, best batting Jack Rushmere with 16 including a couple of nice boundaries and well worked singles.
Thanks go to James Inglis for scoring and all the parents for bringing the boys along. You can follow our progress in the Aylesbury & District League U11 North on the following website;
